The F.L. Emmert Company began as a wine and beer saloon at the corner of Clifton and Vine streets in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati.
Quickly, the founders realized there was a need in the community: brewers were depending on farmers to pick up spent grains to haul to local farms for livestock. Repeatedly, busy farmers would miss their pick up times, and the brewers’ operations would come to a screeching halt. The Emmerts were in the unique position to serve both the brewers and the farmers, so in 1885 they began dealing in brewer’s grains.
Today, the fifth generation owners still gaze through the lens of that same service model – always looking for opportunities to do what is best for the business, customers, employees, and, ultimately, animals.
